Where did sanity go?

img credit: dailymail.co.uk"I am not a witch; I'm you." I don't know about you, but I am nothing like Christine O'Donnell. Is it me or does it seem like this years cast of characters running for office are more ridiculous than ever before? I have never been one who screams to keep incumbents, but maybe just maybe in 2010, it would actually be a good idea.

We have one candidate who is refuting that she is not a witch, because Bill Maher played a clip from one of his old shows fifteen years ago. Why would you respond to that? Does she actual believe we think she is a witch?

Another candidate said, "I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family, and I don't want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option — it isn't." What? Why would New York, primarily a liberal state elect someone with those convictions? Do these politicians not know their constituents?

How about this winner running for the Senate from the state of Nevada, "I keep hearing about Muslims wanting to take over the United States ... on a TV program just last night, I saw that they are taking over a city in Michigan and the residents of the city, they want them out. They want them out. So, I want to hear your thoughts about that." Wait it gets better, the candidate continues, "My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States. It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States."

Ladies and Gentlemen your candidates for office in 2010. Explain to me again how the Democrats are losing? This is the craziest cast of characters since the 2004 Democratic primary. I just want to scream. What happened to my Republican party? I understand the tea party had some momentum, but this is a joke. The Republicans couldn't have done any better?

It would be nice for once, just once in my lifetime to actually have people in office who represent the people and not just 10% of the population. If ever there was a rallying cry for public activism, this electing is screaming it like a mighty echo in the Grand Canyon. I have slight hopes that everyone who voted in 2008 will come out in 2010, but we traditionally know that the base carries mid term elections. We need EVERYONE to vote.

Rather than saying you are not a witch, why not say I am not that crazy woman you met 15 years ago on Politically Incorrect. Rather than saying we need to ban homosexuality, why not follow the tenets of acceptance preached in your orthodox Jewish ways. I don't even know how to respond to Sharron Angle.

I give up. I give up.
