Fox and Friends Brian Kilmeade said, "not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslim." Of course like everyone else in the national limelight, he quickly turned around and spout out a halfhearted apology, "I don't believe all terrorists are Muslims. I'm sorry. I'm sorry about that if I offended ... or hurt anybody's feelings. But that's it." Now we must move on like it never happened.
I don't want to move on. What an idiotic thing to say.
A quick search of notorious terrorists and I was able to find:
Michael Bray (Army of God) "In 1985 Michael Bray was convicted for destroying eight women's health care clinics and other properties in the Washington DC area. Find out more about the Army of God chaplain, and why he says Christianity justifies acts of terrorism." source
Luis Posada Carriles (anti-Castro Cuban terrorism)
"Luis Posada Carriles may be the only former CIA operative wanted for international terrorism. The man behind the bombing of Cubana Flight 455 in 1976 remains untried in American detention." source
Timothy McVeigh
Timothy James McVeigh was a United States Army veteran and former security guard responsible for detonating a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, killing 168 people. It was the deadliest act of terrorism within the United States prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks[3] and is referred to as the Oklahoma City bombing. source
If Mr. Kilmeade knew anything about history when he spoke, he would realize how asinine his comments were. However, why should I be surprised? This is the same guy in July who said when discussing marriage and Alzheimers, "We are -- we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other ..." he continued, "See, the problem is the Swedes have pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes .... Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society.
Brian Kilmeade spits out a lot of unthoughtful garbage. I am all for freedom of speech, hell I promote it on the VXC, but at some point things like this are hurtful to our society.
At some point, our television commentators must realize that they have the power to influence the masses; with that comes great responsibility. Stating that "all terrorists are Muslims" does nothing but damage the already frail psyche of the American consciousness.
At some point, we need to hold our public figures accountable for the information they spit out of their mouths. I don't care if your are Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, Huffington Post, Bloomberg or the President, we need to choose our words wisely when we are speaking to a vast audience.
